Abstract
The aim of this study was to analyze health managers and professionals’ perceptions of the design and implementation of a child developmental surveillance (DS) intervention in primary health care (PHC) using the child handbook. We conducted a qualitative study adopting a participatory co-design health research approach. We conducted semi-structured interviews based on the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) with 14 participants from two municipalities in Brazil. Thematic analysis identified barriers and facilitators related to health services, DS, the child handbook, management of child care and the implementation process. Institutional dynamics, conceptual gaps and possibilities for reorganizing child care permeated health managers and professionals’ perceptions. The co-design approach contributed to intervention planning with the aim of improving child DS surveillance in PHC.
