Dermeval Saviani: a fifty-year trajectory

The ethical attitude of Dermeval Saviani, as well as his academic contributions both promoting key educators and through countless publications, are one of the best and greatest testimonies in the struggle for elementary and higher education in Brazil today. His commitment in favor of an alliance between educators and the search for quality and socially equal school education, leads to the celebration in a timely and deserved way of his fiftieth career anniversary. In this paper, divided in three parts, we first highlight the most general aspects in his biography (family, school, work). In the second section, we address his academic-professional path, as professor, writer and researcher. In the last section, we underline the professor Saviani’s future plans, an expression of his vigor and willingness to continue contributing to Brazilian education, stimulating us in the struggle for quality education for the working class.
