Abstracts
This study used photovoice to understand the difficulties and optimize coping strategies experienced by health council members in Primary Health Care during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study followed the photovoice methodology steps proposed by Camille Sutton-Brown and Seitz & Orsini, and an implementation science framework to guide the evaluation of results. Five health council members from two PHCs participated in nine meetings, producing 14 photographs. Analyses revealed two categories: “One must be outraged”, addressing the neglect by public authorities in slums, and “Hope as an act of resistance” focusing on resilience and the redefinition of existence. The images reached decision-makers at three management levels (local, municipal, and federal), resulting in a parliamentary amendment for these services. Photovoice facilitated critical reflection and stimulated empowerment by identifying and overcoming issues faced during the pandemic.
