Abstract
Domestic violence against women has become increasingly prominent in public policies and ever more complex strategies are required to tackle this problem. The aim of this research was to analyze the moral, ethical, social and cultural values that cut across the narratives of male perpetrators of domestic gender-based violence, establishing a dialogue with the theme of mental health. We conducted an exploratory descriptive study using documentary sources, drawing on counselling provided to men during reflective groups. The findings show that the themes addressed by the men revolved around issues of family conflict and reflections on their own mental health. We conclude by highlighting that masculinity is a symbolic space that compromises mental health care and is strongly associated with domestic gender-based violence.
