Abstract

The article presents an ethnographic study of “Renalcast: talking about renal life”, a podcast produced by people diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. The research was carried out in 2020 based on the episodes of the first season, interviews with the creators of the project and promotional material on social networks. In particular, we reflected on the idea of “renal life”, a central category of the podcast that helps us to understand some facets of the meanings attributed to the disease in this context. The results show that the biographical experiences of the creators and their relationship with the diagnosis acted as a starting point for the discussions proposed in the Renalcast. Therefore, conceptions about the organ and treatments are interrelated and have an effect on the way the narrative about “renal life” was developed, the choice of topics covered, interaction formats and the selection of guests for each episode.
