The initiative of experiences and stages in the reality of the Brazilian National Health System (VER-SUS) was developed by undergraduate students in different regions of Brazil. The experience was developed within a favorable political scenario for changes in public health policies. This qualitative approach study, used interviews, documentary and bibliographic research as tools for data. The analysis benefited from the theoretical-methodological perspective post-criticism with rizomatic inspiration. The discussion synthesizes historical elements of the situation at that time (2003-2005), in which the idea of formative practices of the VER-SUS proved to be potent in the analyzed experiences; intimately linked to the leading role of the students’ movement and current debates in that period. The research subjects see VER-SUS as an event in the field of Health Public, as a turning point, configuring a novelty and invention in that context.
