Information and discipline: the Health Education Collection in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil (1939-1952)

Historical and documentary study, aimed to characterize and identify evidences of the disciplinarian discourse in the Health Education Collection, distributed throughout the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, between 1939 and 1952. It was found the presence of the disciplinarian discourse with pretensions to the modulation of behavior, geared towards the population sanitation, based on the advice of new habits, guided by hygienists conceptions. It was concluded that the strategy pioneered the dissemination of health education concepts, that beginning with health information, expanded the room for science in the management of collective life, influencing the modulation of behavior and the design of sanitary practices.
