Abstract

This scoping review aimed to map scientific knowledge on adherence to public health services among people with mental disorders in Brazil. The search of bibliographic databases resulted in 27 publications, which predominantly evaluated medication adherence using instruments and interviews, the associations between the variables studied, and the participation of users of Psychosocial Care Centers with specific mental disorders. There was no consensus on criteria, definition, or measurement method, except for positive and negative factors for adherence. However, the existing literature does not reflect the multifactorial nature of the phenomenon, nor does it highlight the relevance of non-pharmacological interventions and user participation in follow-up. Considering adherence to be an indicator of quality and a factor in reducing public health costs, the article suggests studies with robust designs consistent with the national context.
