Abstract

This study presents the perceptions of children living in a peripheral community about their rights. The data were collected using group activity and project workshops in a peripheral community in the northeast of Brazil in partnership with a Social Assistance Referral Center and field diaries. The results prompt crucial reflections about child labor and the social dynamics involved in this phenomenon, revealing that children have a complex and critical perspective of their rights, the resources they have access to and the violations they face. The absence of the state and fragility of relations were factors that contributed to rights violations, notably child labor. These actions reveal the social problems faced by the children, enabling their participation and autonomy in all stages of the study.
