Abstract
The aim of this study was to understand the perceptions health faculty members at a public university in Minas Gerais, Brazil regarding interprofessional health education and collaboration. We conducted a qualitative study using focus groups and thematic content analysis. Five categories emerged: (I) Collaboration and integration as meanings of interprofessional health education; (II) Teamwork is built through the development of relational skills and recognition of different professional roles; (III) Active teaching-learning-assessment methodologies are tools for promoting interprofessional education; (IV) Sharing of spaces and integration of teaching, services and community drive interprofessional education; and (V) Political and institutional structural challenges undermine the implementation of interprofessional education. The findings reinforce the need to implement pedagogical and institutional strategies to strengthen interprofessional education and guide the training of health professionals for interprofessional practice.
