Abstract
Despite significant expansion of the psychosocial care network (RAPS) in the state of Minas Gerais, challenges remain in providing adequate mental health (MH) care. This qualitative study analyzed the perceptions of Technical References in Mental Health (TR-MH) regarding the potentials and challenges of MH care organization and provision. A total of 27 RTRSMs were interviewed. The interviewees stressed that the engagement and involvement of professionals working in the area are potentials of MH care, while rapid staff turnover, lack of continuous professional training and development, problems that are characteristic of small municipalities and inter-municipal agreement difficulties were challenges for the implementation and structuring of the RAPS and access to services. MH care follow-up and monitoring was highlighted as a key strategy for identifying gaps in care and coordinating the different points of the network.
