Abstracts

This study analyzed how training in integrative and complementary health practices (ICHPs) influences health managers’ perceptions of the provision of these services in four metropolitan regions in Brazil: Fortaleza (CE), Campinas (SP), Porto Alegre (RS) and Goiânia (GO). Adopting a qualitative approach, 23 primary health care managers with and without training in ICHPs were interviewed. Managers with training highlighted benefits such as well-being and adherence to therapy, while those without training underlined structural and cultural barriers. The findings reveal important regional differences. In Porto Alegre, the emphasis was on clinical efficiency; in Fortaleza and Goiânia, priority was given to welcoming and affiliation; in Campinas, the emphasis was on social interaction. The perceptions reveal that training in ICHPs influences the organization of these services, reinforcing the importance of training to strengthen these practices.
