Abstract
Breast cancer treatment impacts sexuality and marital relationships, also affecting partners. This study aimed to identify the perceptions of partners of women with breast cancer undergoing oncological treatment regarding their sexual experience after the diagnosis. A qualitative research approach was employed, involving ten individual interviews with heterosexual and cisgender men, analyzed through thematic analysis. The two identified themes indicate that the cancer diagnosis affected the sexual dynamics and provoked changes in the intimacy of the couples. Despite the influence of masculinities on the perception of sexuality, men demonstrate empathy and prioritize the well-being of their partners. The lack of guidance from professionals regarding sexuality hindered the adaptive process throughout the treatment. There is a need to integrate men’s sexual health into comprehensive care, in accordance with the PNAISH, including partners of women with cancer.
