Abstract
Considering Brazil’s continental dimensions and regional particularities, this article presents analyses of the implementation of the National Policy for Comprehensive Men’s Health Care (PNAISH) in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The study is part of a qualitative national multicenter study whose research design included narrative interviews with managers, health workers and the general male population. The findings reveal limited awareness of the existence of a men’s health policy among the population, that successful experiences involving men in health care coexist with implementation challenges related to structural weaknesses arising from state administrative and financial crises and urban violence, and the need to adopt an intersectional, intersectoral and interinstitutional approach to operationalize the core components of the PNAISH.
