We present a discussion about the bibliographic production in Social and Human Sciences in Health (SHSH) published by the journal Interface in the last twenty years (1997-2017). We aim to describe the legitimation process of the SHSH by disseminating theoretical and methodological knowledge and specific themes within the Brazilian scientific production. All the publications of the period were consulted and 216 articles identified with the SHSH were selected. The analysis resulted in categories that highlighted the following themes: mental health, aging, infectious diseases, gender, reproductive health, and theoretical-conceptual. The combination of the themes with current problems of the Brazilian society reveals authors as protagonists of studies that have social relevance and political commitment to transformations and changes occurring both in health care and in public policies.
