Abstracts

The aim of this study was to identify the elements that midwives consider when using interventions during home births. To this end, we conducted semi-structured interviews with five professionals between August 2020 and May 2021. The data obtained from the interviews were analyzed using dialogic mapping, resulting in the identification of two categories: focus on safety; and beyond risk. The results show that midwives plan care considering potential risk of morbidity and mortality and materialized risk during labor. While safety is indisputable, midwives consider the demands and needs of parturient women in decision-making. It is concluded that parturient women are the key reference point for choosing interventions, meaning that the decision-making process is reconfigured in each childbirth experience.
