The aim here was to analyze how the Family Health Strategy was put into operation in a company within the supplementary healthcare system. This was a case study conducted in state clinical units of a health insurance operator, in the cities of João Pessoa, Recife and Natal, Northeast, Brazil. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with managers and healthcare professionals. For data analysis, we used the content analysis technique. Twenty-four interviews were conducted, from which two categories emerged: the care organization, which addressed professional composition and skill types and participants’ registration; and the care processes, consisting of the subcategories: linkage, healthcare coverage/completeness and health promotion programs. The company’s initiative is a step forward for the practices developed in the sector and is also capable of improving users’ health.
