Abstract

This study investigated the challenges in integrating clinical and mental care for people with mental disorders in the Psychosocial Care Network (RAPS) in a municipality in São Paulo, given the high prevalence of physical comorbidities and difficulties in accessing services. Using a qualitative design involving worker focus groups, we adopted the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) as an analytical framework to identify barriers to the implementation of integrated care. The results highlighted the following aspects in three domains: Outer setting domain – patient difficulties, scarcity of resources and fragility of policies; Inner setting domain – communication failures, structural limitations, stigma, practices misaligned with patient needs and issues related to leadership and institutional climate; Individuals domain – lack of training, personal attributes, low level of identification with the service and stage of change.
