Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyze the meanings attributed by managers in relation to health and the production of care based on Integrative and Complementary Health Practices (PICS) in Primary Care Units. It is a qualitative research conducted between 2021 and 2022 in 95 municipalities in four metropolitan regions, with the participation of 186 managers from health units. Semi-structured interviews were conducted by telephone and digital platforms and analyzed based on Cultural Studies. The concept of health presented different descriptions, ranging from biological to a correlation of social determination and a synchronization of body-mind-spirit-autonomy. The production of care anchored in these practices brought a range of other health rationalities, including the reduction of medicalization and the promotion of humanization of care. A comprehensive view of PICS was evident among health managers, who understand their contributions to health promotion in Primary Care.
