The use of observatories to follow and monitor health systems and policies is steadily growing. We aimed to describe and review, using Actor-Network Theory (ANT), the connections and controversies that arise from observatories as socio-technical networks, in the context of health systems and policies analysis. Using a qualitative approach we present a study of multiple cases and graphic representations of cartography diagrams. The use of ANT and its Mapping of Controversies may help to understand in a broad and diverse

Actor-Network Theory and the study of Intersectionality in public policies

Abstract

MALVEZZI, Cilene Despontin and NASCIMENTO, Juliana Luporini do. Actor-Network Theory and the study of Intersectionality in public policies. Interface (Botucatu) [online]. 2020, vol.24, e190341. Epub Mar 16, 2020. ISSN 1414-3283. http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/interface.190341. The polysemy of the term “network” is present in the political, economic, and social realities. Networks essentially aim at integrating and connecting people, objects, or ideas to decentralize and build horizontal relations among elements. In the public policy field, the intersectionality and intersectional networks logic is a strategy by the State to foster articulation among the public and private sectors and the civil society, given the complexity of issues and resource scarcity. In light of Bruno Latour’s Actor-Network Theory, the objective of this study

The social-economic-political scenario since 2015 presents new challenges and characterizations for the worker’s comprehensive health care. To this end, we interviewed some people from different sectors (Health, Labor, Social Welfare, and Justice) linked to the workers’ health. There was a consensus concerning the difficulties faced in implementing intersectoral practice. Overall, this led to

Child Neurology in its prophylactic-social projection: Pediatrics, Mental Hygiene and Psychology in Argentina (1934-1940)

Abstract

BRIOLOTTI, Ana S.. Child Neurology in its prophylactic-social projection: Pediatrics, Mental Hygiene and Psychology in Argentina (1934-1940). Interface (Botucatu) [online]. 2020, vol.24, e190319. Epub Feb 10, 2020. ISSN 1414-3283. https://doi.org/10.1590/interface.190319. The article analyzes the proposal of Aquiles Gareiso and Florencio Escardó concerning the integration of Neurology into Pediatrics. In a period in which the majority of the physicians conceived Neurology as a discipline centered on diagnosis, Gareiso’s and Escardó’s proposal interacted with Social Medicine, Eugenics and Mental Hygiene to propose a dynamic focus, with preventive potentials. Based on the principle of neuropsychological parallelism, Neuropediatrics provided semiological tools for early diagnoses, excluding, initially, the contributions of Psychology. Subsequently, this principle was reviewed in light of its
